Constituent Services
This week, my office resolved a billing issue for a constituent that was being charged for medication related to a 9/11 illness that is covered by the Zadroga Act.
After following all proper procedures, the constituent was still being billed for these critical medications that were prescribed by a WTC Doctor.
A constituent recently contacted my office looking for help reinstating his disability assistance after trying on his own for six months with no success.
After being injured on the job with the New York Police Department, this constituent was on disability for years. He neglected to fill out a re-certification form so unfortunately his assistance was cut.
My office recently helped a constituent recover more than two thousand dollars from the IRS in a case for his missing 2021 tax return.
Caught in bureaucratic red tape after submitting his return, my constituent complied with all IRS requests and found himself no closer to receiving the money he was owed. Finally, he turned to my office for help. My staff got in touch with IRS agents to push his return through the system, avoiding useless back and forth and delivering the $2,019 return.
My office recently assisted an Egyptian immigrant with becoming a U.S. citizen after he was stuck in the immigration process for more than four years.
Mohamed Elslawy filed an N-400, Application for Naturalization, with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in March of 2018. One year later, after a series of background checks and a naturalization test, he was recommended for approval. Unfortunately, due to bureaucracy and red tape, Mr. Elslawy’s case was put on hold.
Last week, my office helped to reunite a family and solve an immigration case that had been caught up in bureaucracy & red tape for years.
Earlier this month, a constituent reached out to my office seeking assistance with Social Security Insurance (SSI). When he became the legal guardian of his developmentally disabled niece, he found himself struggling to pay for the 24/7 caregiver support she required.
Last week Rolling Thunder reached out to my office regarding a WWII veteran who had recently passed away with no documentation of his military service.
Rolling Thunder connected my office with this veteran's family, and we were able to find his military records in 2 days. Because of this, the veteran was able to receive full military honors at his funeral over the weekend.
A few months ago, constituents came to my office looking for assistance with claiming money owed to them from their bank after their home was devastated after Hurricane Sandy. They spent $17,500 to repair the damages, but the bank withheld the funds from them despite the constituents showing proof of repair.
Recently a constituent contacted my office looking for assistance with contacting a Brooklyn post office manager to inform him that his USPS drivers were parking in front of a fire hydrant on 5th avenue. The constituent said USPS trucks were parking in front of the fire hydrant every day and were sometimes left there overnight, posing a safety hazard if the FDNY needed quick access to the hydrant.
A constituent called our office after her father, a United States Army veteran, passed away and was looking for help securing military honors for his funeral.
Unfortunately, the constituent did not have the proper documentation to show proof of her father's military service and could not receive Military Funeral Honors for him.
My office stepped in, reached out to the National Personnel Records Center, and after working with the constituent and department we were able to secure military honors for the constituent's father in under three days.
