Malliotakis Reverses Garnishment on Senior Citizen's Social Security

My office recently stopped the unwarranted garnishing of a senior citizen's social security for a child support order that was dismissed when he became the custodial parent.
This constituent was being charged $220 a month by the Social Security Administration (SSA) for a Child Support Order which he was unaware of as he had full custody. His attempts to resolve this issue with the SSA were unsuccessful so he came to our office for assistance instead.
First, finding that there were no charges against him in Richmond Country Court, my staff was able to contact the NYS Agency responsible for Child Support collection and found that no order existed. After providing the SSA with this evidence, they decided to reverse their decision. This is the second case regarding Child Support garnishment our office was able to reverse!
"I would like to express my appreciation for all of the fine work you and the staff did to help alleviate me of this problem with DCSS and the SSA," the constituent said. "Dealing with issues pertaining to these offices can be frustrating and sometimes overwhelming. It’s good to know there are places to turn to for help. I must say the Congresswoman is very fortunate to have a staff that is so willing and attentive. Thanks again and keep up the good work!"
