A few months ago, constituents came to my office looking for assistance with claiming money owed to them from their bank after their home was devastated after Hurricane Sandy. They spent $17,500 to repair the damages, but the bank withheld the funds from them despite the constituents showing proof of repair.

The borough’s congressional representative has joined the fight to help secure a new contract for Staten Island Ferry workers.

On Tuesday, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn) penned a letter to Mayor Eric Adams, imploring him to resolve a longstanding contract dispute between New York City and the Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association (MEBA), the union that represents the captains, assistant captains, mates, chief engineers and marine engineers on the Staten Island Ferry.

Recently a constituent contacted my office looking for assistance with contacting a Brooklyn post office manager to inform him that his USPS drivers were parking in front of a fire hydrant on 5th avenue. The constituent said USPS trucks were parking in front of the fire hydrant every day and were sometimes left there overnight, posing a safety hazard if the FDNY needed quick access to the hydrant.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-Staten Island/South Brooklyn), who voted in favor of the legislation, announced the funding in a Monday media release describing it as “long overdue.”

“I recently visited with leadership from USCG Sector New York and the need for housing upgrades was one of the main issues brought to my attention,” Malliotakis, who’s a member of the Coast Guard-Maritime Subcommittee, said.

A constituent called our office after her father, a United States Army veteran, passed away and was looking for help securing military honors for his funeral.

Unfortunately, the constituent did not have the proper documentation to show proof of her father's military service and could not receive Military Funeral Honors for him.

My office stepped in, reached out to the National Personnel Records Center, and after working with the constituent and department we were able to secure military honors for the constituent's father in under three days.
