A retired NYPD officer contacted my office looking for assistance with the IRS. The officer's disability pension was tax-exempt, however, five years ago the IRS sent him a debt notice for failure to pay taxes on his pension.

The officer's accountant sent all of the necessary paperwork to the IRS to prove that the man was tax-exempt, but the officer continued to receive notices of debt due. The IRS placed a lien on his house and started taking $310 out of his monthly social security check.
