Malliotakis Saves Constituent $16,000 After Being Incorrectly Billed by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Recently, a constituent and his attorney contacted my office looking for assistance in contacting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The constituent was in the process of selling his home and HUD was requesting an additional $16,000 in payments to close on the sale and pay off his mortgage. After reviewing documents, the constituent's attorney felt the additional $16,000 charge from HUD was a mistake. Despite repeated attempts to get in contact with HUD to review the documents, the constituent and his attorney never heard back, leading them to turn to my office for help.
After our counsel reviewed the constituents' documents it was clear HUD's request for $16,000 was incorrect. My office immediately contacted HUD and asked them to review the constituents' documents. After review, HUD agreed the $16,000 charge was incorrect and quickly sent an amended statement to the constituent. The constituent has since been able to close on the sale of his home without the extra charge and is greatly appreciative of my office's efforts to correct the situation in a timely manner.
