Malliotakis Helps Retired NYPD Detective & 9/11 First Responder Receive Healthcare Coverage under the WTCHP

Our office recently helped a retired NYPD Detective and 9/11 first responder receive health care coverage under the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP).
In August, this constituent contacted our office looking for assistance after he was denied certification by the CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for back injuries sustained as a member of the "Bucket Brigade" following the September 11th terrorist attacks, despite having the proper documentation.
Our office advised this constituent to send additional documentation from Mount Sinai's WTCHP Clinical Center of Excellence, where he had been receiving treatment, to the CDC's NIOSH Certification team, along with Social Security reports, witness statements, notarized affidavits, and hospital reports, for further review. We then followed up with the NIOSH Certification team to ensure his documentation was received and was being reviewed.
We heard back in October that this constituent's case was denied again due to his medical team not sending NIOSH all the required documentation. We encouraged him to work with a lawyer to file an appeal. We recently learned this constituent's claim was approved and now the cost of his back treatments is being rightfully covered by the WTCHP.
