Malliotakis Helps Purple Heart Recipient Receive Disability from VA
Recently a constituent who is a single father and Purple Heart recipient contacted my office looking for assistance with expediting his request for disability from the Veterans Administration (VA).
This constituent was active duty in the Army from 2008-2016 where he served in Afghanistan. While overseas, the constituent was injured and medically evacuated to a wounded warrior home after his tent was hit by three rockets. Following the incident, the constituent was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by three different doctors, prompting him to apply for disability assistance from the VA.
Upon returning home, the constituent served as a corrections officer and TLC officer but had to leave his jobs because of his continued struggle with PTSD. Left without a job and having received no answer from the VA, the constituent was struggling to pay his bills, take care of his son, and was on the verge of losing his home. He then turned to our office for help with expediting his request.
For months the VA pushed off making a decision on what percentage of disability to give this constituent. After contacting the VA, my office was able to immediately expedite this constituents application, where he was then awarded nearly $40,000 in back pay for two years of disability payments and 70% disability going forward.
Now, this constituent is able to take care of his son without financial worry. I'm honored that my office was able to help this brave constituent receive the financial relief he desperately deserved after he sacrificed so much for our country.
