Our office recently had a local funeral home contact us requesting assistance in expediting the burial of a constituent who was a former U.S. Air Force service member. The constituent had recently passed away, and his family hoped to have him interred at Calverton National Cemetery on his birthday this month.
The funeral home was informed that the standard processing window could prevent the requested burial date from being guaranteed because the veteran’s discharge documentation was still needed.
Our office immediately worked with the National Archives, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and local veterans representatives to locate and expedite the required records. Through these efforts, the documentation was processed and the burial was scheduled for the date requested by the family.
Thanks to our office’s coordination, the required documentation was processed on an expedited basis, allowing the family to honor their life, service to our nation and final wishes by having him laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery on the date they requested.
