Malliotakis Helps Constituent Unjustly Detained in Lebanon

Last Friday, our office received a call regarding a U.S. citizen being detained in Lebanon. The constituent has dual citizenship and had traveled to Israel on a holy trip. Upon attempting to leave Lebanon to return home, authorities confiscated all her paperwork and cell phone. Adding to the situation, her ill husband had returned home alone and tragically passed away. His wake was scheduled for the following Sunday, with the burial on Monday.
Recognizing the urgency, our office promptly reached out to a contact at the Lebanese embassy in Washington, D.C. Fortunately, the embassy was able to secure the constituent's release from detainee status on Sunday, and she was able to return home and be reunited with her family for her husband’s services without further delay.
