Malliotakis Helps Constituent Reclaim Over $35,000 After Being Overpaid by Social Security Administration

Our office recently assisted a constituent who had an overpayment of over $35,000 dating back to 2018 from the Social Security Administration (SSA).
The constituent's wife received a letter stating she was overpaid in benefits by the SSA and was asked to return the benefits. Despite previous attempts by the constituent to negotiate with the SSA, including a rejected request for reconsideration and a partial repayment offer, the issue remained unresolved until our office intervened in 2023.
Our office urged the SSA to reconsider the repayment terms. Upon learning of recent changes in the agency’s guidelines regarding overpayments with no fault of the recipient, the constituent submitted a request for reconsideration under the updated guidelines. Our successful efforts resulted in the constituent receiving the full amount back from the SSA, plus interest!
Our office remains dedicated to ensuring all constituent issues are heard and resolved. We are thrilled to see yet another successful story!
