Malliotakis Helps Brooklyn Widow Recover Owed Benefits from the VA

Constituent Services

Our office recently helped a Brooklyn widow recover thousands owed to her in survivor benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

This constituent's husband, a Veteran, sadly passed away in August of 2023. She was eligible to receive survivor benefits, however, the benefits were put on hold for eight months due to departmental delays in certifying her status. Because of this, she reached out to our office for help.

We contacted the VA on her behalf and put them in touch with the constituent directly. Within two weeks her status was verified, she received back pay for the benefits owed to her (almost $15,000), and got confirmation that she will continue to receive the monthly widow benefits she's entitled to moving forward.
