Malliotakis Statement on Prime Minister Netanyahu's Address to Joint Meeting of Congress

July 24, 2024

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) released the below statement following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to a Joint Meeting of Congress:

"291 days after Hamas' horrific attack against innocent Israeli civilians, we welcomed Prime Minister Netanyahu to address a Joint Meeting of Congress to unite our nations against terrorism and unequivocally condemn the rampant and disgusting displays of antisemitism in America and across the globe. As the Prime Minister proudly stated, 'America is the guardian of Western Civilization,' and we have a responsibility to protect our nation, our people, and our allies against threats of violent extremism from those who seek to undermine our democratic values, like Iran and its terrorist proxies. We continue to stand with our great ally to achieve our shared goal of seeing that all remaining hostages are released, swiftly ending this war, and securing peace and prosperity for Israel and the United States. We must never forget that Israel's security is America's security."

Malliotakis, whose district encompasses Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn, represents a large Jewish population. In Congress, Malliotakis is a member of the bipartisan House-Knesset Parliamentary Friendship Group, and has voted for, introduced and cosponsored several pieces of legislation to provide critical military assistance to Israel, restore maximum pressure on Iran, crackdown on rising antisemitism on college campuses and secure federal security grants for the local jewish community. In April, Malliotakis joined House Speaker Mike Johnson at Columbia University to meet with Jewish students about on-campus antisemitism, and visited Israel as a previous member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
