Malliotakis Statement on Passage of Bloated COVID "Relief Package"
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) issued the following statement following the passage of House Democrats' bloated COVID-19 "relief package":
"Sadly, President Biden and Speaker Pelosi chose the partisan path, changing rules to jam through a costly, 600 page COVID bill with little debate and transparency to show the American people how the full $1.9 trillion will be spent. The relief package should have been tailored to expand unemployment, give taxpayers their money back with stimulus checks, and help our small businesses, particularly those shut down by arbitrary restrictions. However, this bill contains all sorts of additional spending, including billions in foreign aid, while $1 trillion remains unspent from previous packages and less than 1% will go to vaccine production and distribution. Worst of all, there was no requirement that states and cities not increase taxes after receiving billions in aid. I have repeatedly asked Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio to commit to freezing income and property taxes but both refuse to and, despite receiving over $14 billion in aid, the MTA still plans to raise our tolls. I call on all three to reconsider.”
