Malliotakis Reminds Constituents to Check Passports Six Months Ahead of Summer Travel Season

(STATEN ISLAND/BROOKLYN, NY) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today is reminding constituents to check their passports six months before the summer travel season begins to avoid delays due to application backlogs. Since 2021, the congresswoman’s office has helped 855 constituents who ran the risk of missing travel plans obtain passports and renewals.
“Despite passport agencies returning to pre-pandemic staffing levels, our office has annually received an influx of requests due to continued application backlogs and processing delays. With six months until the busy summer travel season, now’s the time to begin applying for passports and renewals. I urge constituents to check their passports' expiration and to leave at least ten weeks from submitting applications to receive a new passport. As always, my office is here to assist residents of Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn with passports requests as we've helped 855 constituents renew their passports since taking office."
Constituents should be advised that passports should have at least six months of validity remaining from the date of entry or departure to or from international destinations.
