Malliotakis: Infrastructure Package Should be Bipartisan
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), the only Member of Congress representing New York City on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, today released the following statement regarding President Biden's proposed infrastructure package:
"As the only Member of Congress representing New York City on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I have a unique understanding of the need to modernize our nation's aging infrastructure. As the representative of a community that would benefit from such investment, I want to work in good faith with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support our roads, bridges and ports while strengthening our current infrastructure to provide security, create economic growth and generate good-paying jobs in the process.
"Additionally, as President Biden indicated in his remarks this afternoon, we must invest in American manufacturing and bring our supply chain home, particularly our medicine and technology. This is something I have been advocating for and it is critical for our independence, particularly from China, that we work together to make this a reality.
"My biggest concern is that this plan spends more on subsidizing electric vehicles [$174 billion] than it does on our roads, bridges, ports and airports, combined. Additionally, too many questions remain on how the package will be paid for. I'm committed to working with my colleagues in Congress and the White House to develop a tailored, bipartisan package that addresses the specific needs of our country and my community."
