Malliotakis Honors NYPD's Vogel & Tsakos, Urges Support for Police Amid Rising NYC Crime

May 12, 2021

(WASHINGTON, DC) - In honor of National Police Week, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today spoke on the House Floor to honor New York Police Department (NYPD) officer Alyssa Vogel, fallen NYPD officer Anastasios Tsakos and warned colleagues not to repeat New York City policies that have led to skyrocketing crime and diminished morale among the NYPD.

"I'm here to warn my colleagues about what happens when politicians think they know how to do the job on the street better than our police," Malliotakis said. "I've seen the quality of life deteriorate in New York City; I've seen the crime skyrocket. We must learn from what has happened here to not make this mistake and adopt those very policies on the federal level."

Malliotakis also reiterated her calls for the federal government to send in FBI, DEA and ATF agents should Mayor de Blasio continue to tie the hands of the NYPD.
