Malliotakis: Governor Cuomo Failed New York State

March 25, 2021

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today released the following statement on the one year anniversary of Governor Cuomo's misguided executive order mandating nursing homes accept COVID-positive patients:

"Today we remember the approximately 15,000 individuals who lost their lives this past year because of Governor Cuomo's misguided and reckless executive order that mandated nursing homes accept COVID-positive patients. Despite a lack of personal protective equipment (PPE) and there being alternative facilities - like the USNS Comfort, Javits Center and South Beach Psychiatric Center - to care for COVID-positive patients, the Governor's order remained in effect, putting our most vulnerable mothers, fathers and grandparents at risk.

"Since then, we've learned the Governor and his Administration willfully covered up the true number of lives lost in nursing homes, underreported it by thousands to avoid DOJ investigation, stonewalled the state legislature and threatened a State Legislator whose own uncle was a victim of the Governor's carelessness. It's clear that during one of the most critical moments in our nation's history, Governor Cuomo failed our state. My colleagues and I will continue to call for accountability to deliver justice for the families who lost loved ones because of the Governor's gross negligence."
