Malliotakis, Gottheimer Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Recognize Bahrain's Independence

December 9, 2021

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Congressman Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), led Reps. Crenshaw (R-TX), Meuser (R-PA), Cole (R-OK), Jackson (R-TX), Issa (R-CA), Wilson (R-SC), and McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA), in introducing a resolution to recognize Bahrain on the 50th anniversary of its independence.

Bahrain has served as a strategic partner and ally of the United States since 1971 by bringing political stability to the Middle East and North Africa and providing the United States with a naval station in the Gulf. Bahrain also provided critical assistance to the United States by helping to evacuate American citizens from Afghanistan in the final days of our country's withdrawal from the country.

“Our friend and ally Bahrain is an unwavering partner in a region of critical importance,” said Congresswoman Malliotakis. “The ideals upon which our constitutions were formed serve as the foundation of our shared relationship. From Bahrain’s leadership in spearheading the Abraham Accords with Israel to its generous hosting of major U.S. military installations, the people of Bahrain deserve our recognition now more than ever.”

“Bahrain serves as an important ally in maintaining security in the Gulf region – particularly as Iran continues their malign activity in the region and in the world. Bahrain is a regional leader in countering terrorism financing and promoting peace – most recently by establishing full diplomatic relations between our historic ally, Israel,” said Congressman Gottheimer. “Now, we recognize Bahrain on the 50th anniversary of their independence, and continue our work in Congress to further strengthen our bilateral relationship.”

“I applaud Representatives Malliotakis and Gottheimer for leading the introduction of this resolution," said Ezra Friedlander, Founder of Project Legacy, an organization that marks important milestone dates in world history. "This underscores the shared values and interests between the U.S. and Bahrain.”
