Malliotakis: FAA Must Answer for Not Replacing System After Receiving More Than $50M

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) today released the below statement as the country continues to recover from yesterday's outage of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system.
"In 2018, Congress appropriated more than $50 million for the FAA to specifically modernize its antiquated NOTAM system. It has come to my attention that their plan doesn't replace the system for another six years which is unacceptable. It is beyond unconscionable that despite knowing they would receive these funds five years ago, the FAA failed to develop a plan in a timely manner and they must provide answers as to why it's taken so long for these funds to be utilized for their intended purpose.
"Americans depend on a reliable transportation system to move from point to point efficiently and it's becoming abundantly clear that this Administration is ill-equipped to proactively address transportation nightmares. Instead of focusing on changing the names of systems, Secretary Buttigieg should be working to enact permanent leadership at the FAA and invest more time and resources in ensuring our nation is making the necessary upgrades to our transportation and cyber-security infrastructure to keep our transportation systems safe and reliable."
Congresswoman Malliotakis (NY-11) is a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means and previously served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She was one of 13 House Republicans that supported the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act.
