Malliotakis Applauds Passage of Legislation Requiring Federal Employees to Return to Work

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) applauded the passage of H.R.139, the Stopping Home Office Work's Unproductive Problems (SHOW UP) Act, legislation ending the Biden Administration's pandemic-era telework policies and requiring federal employees to return to the workplace.
"Despite President Biden saying 'the pandemic is over' more than four months ago, federal agencies have continued to maintain COVID-staffing levels at the detriment of the American people. These telework policies have resulted in a backlog of passport requests, delayed federal tax refunds, and seemingly endless bureaucratic red tape, something my office experienced firsthand during the Biden Administration's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and at the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"Today, with the House's passage of the SHOW UP Act, we took action to end the Biden Administration's irresponsible pandemic-era telework policies and demand federal employees return to the workplace to fulfill their duties to serve the American people. If the Senate cares at all about constituent services, they will follow suit and immediately pass this legislation. Should the Senate and White House not find these employees essential enough to return to the workplace, that should be considered when determining which federal agencies are bloated to cut costs and find savings."
