Malliotakis Applauds New Contract for Staten Island Ferry Workers

(STATEN ISLAND, NY) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis issued the following statement regarding the ratification of a new contract between New York City and the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association (MEBA), the union representing workers on the Staten Island Ferry.

"After months of lengthy negotiations, I'm pleased to see the Mayor listen to our calls and strike a fair deal with MEBA, whose members have been unfairly working without a contract for 13 years. This new contract, which was supported overwhelmingly by MEBA members, would bring significant wage increases to our workers, currently the lowest paid in the country to some of the highest. I am hopeful that this deal will resolve recent service delays and disruptions to ferry service by helping retain and attract skilled mariners with the benefits they rightfully deserve.
