Malliotakis Applauds Her Healthy Start Bill Advancing from Energy & Commerce Committee
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis applauds the advancement of her bipartisan legislation, introduced with Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), to extend the Healthy Start program for five years, after it unanimously passed today out of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce 49-0.
The Healthy Start program provides grants to community-based organizations to reduce infant mortality and improve perinatal outcomes. Just over the past two years, this program has delivered more than $2 million to the Community Health Center of Richmond to support women, infants, and families. CHC of Richmond is the only federally qualified health center on Staten Island. As a result, the program provides a wide range of services to low-income residents, including care coordination, breastfeeding and childbirth education, parenting support, smoking cessation assistance, nutritional counseling, psychosocial services, home visits, and support groups.
“I thank Chairman Brett Guthrie, Ranking Member Frank Pallone, and the House Committee on Energy & Commerce for unanimously passing this important piece of bipartisan legislation to extend the Healthy Start program through 2030,” said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. “It will ensure families across the country continue receiving the support they need. Just over the past two years, this program has delivered more than $2 million to the Community Health Center of Richmond in my district to support women, infants, and families in low-income communities. Reauthorizing this important program will continue improving maternal health and reducing infant mortality nationwide. I look forward to building on this momentum and work towards bringing the bill to the House floor.”
Last month, Malliotakis was joined by members of the Community Health Center of Richmond rallying support to extend the bipartisan Healthy Start program.
