Malliotakis Announces New Utrecht High School Students Win 2024 Congressional App Challenge

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis announced Chrystopher Guevara, Stephanie Reinozo, Jaylynn Perez, and Victoria Sanchez from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn are the winners of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for New York’s 11th Congressional District for developing the "Makers of Tomorrow" app.
The 11th grade students created the "Makers of Tomorrow" App which allows users to create accessible STEM projects at home using everyday materials. Users can choose a project from one of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, or Geoscience. A sticker such as "Great Job!" pops up when the user clicks the complete project button. Users can upload a photo to a public album via Google Photos, where others can comment, like, and share.
"I congratulate Chrystopher, Stephanie, Jaylynn, and Victoria for winning our office's Congressional App Challenge,” Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis said. “For the past few years, I have been proud to host this challenge for high school students in our community, providing them with a platform to showcase their creativity and technical skills while encouraging them to explore STEM fields. I look forward to seeing how these students will continue to excel and contribute to our community and country."
The 2nd place winners are Angela Yan and Britney Dong of New Dorp High School on Staten Island for creating "ShareBox," an app designed to help individuals in need by guiding them to nearby locations, called Share Boxes, where they can access free necessities. These Share Boxes are strategically placed in local areas.
The winners of Makers of Tomorrow will be displayed in the Capitol Building, along with House.Gov and the Congressional App Challenge's website for one year. The Congressional App Challenge is an annual nationwide competition sponsored by the Internet Education Foundation to inspire students to explore STEM, coding, and computer science through hands-on practice.
