Malliotakis Announces $2.2 Million for New York Police Department

May 15, 2024

(NEW YORK, NY) - Today Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) announced she secured $2.2 million in federal funding for the New York Police Department (NYPD). The NYPD will use the funds to purchase personal protective equipment, belt-worn trauma kits and replace out-of-date tasers.

"In honor of National Police Week, I'm pleased to announce that our office has secured an additional $2.2 million for the NYPD to upgrade the life-saving equipment needed to protect themselves and others while on the job," Congresswoman Malliotakis said. "This funding will allow the NYPD to purchase a newer model of tasers that have a proven track record of being a less-lethal enforcement option, and give them immediate access to trauma kits that provide pre-hospital treatment for a number of injuries. Having this critical equipment will significantly increase the number of lives saved in emergency situations and help keep our officers safe while they're on duty."

"The challenges New York City police officers face have never been greater," said Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry. "We need support from leaders at every level of government, not just with words but with actions. We thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for taking action once again to help protect our members as we protect New York City."

"Since the start of the dangerous ‘defund the police’ movement, Congresswoman Malliotakis has been fighting to ensure NYPD Detectives and their fellow Finest have the important resources they need," said Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo. "This important federal funding that will be used to protect the public and our police is proof of her unwavering commitment to public safety. Many of Congresswoman Malliotakis' colleagues should take a page from her book instead of the manifestos they are reading."

"Congresswoman Malliotakis has been a constant supporter of law enforcement, especially the NYPD," said Lieutenants Benevolent Association President Louis Turco. "She has been very vocal with her support and as always, she has backed her words with her actions. The money she has secured will not only help protect the citizens of New York, but it will also protect its Police Officers. It’s very fitting that this comes during National Police Week, when we remember our fallen brothers and sisters and we get to show our appreciation for those who support us. Again, we’d like to thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for her support."

"Any additional funding for protection and safety of our officers is always helpful," said CEA President Monahan. "I would like to thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for attaining these funds and her great support of the NYPD."

With the addition of this funding, Malliotakis has secured over $9 million for the NYPD to purchase personal protective equipment, forensic equipment, patrol response vehicles, fixed plate reader systems, K-9 training and equipment, new tasers and belt-worn trauma kits. In Congress she has condemned efforts to defund the police, voted to strengthen penalties for criminals who assault law enforcement and make it a deportable offense, and has introduced legislation to hold District Attorneys accountable for declining to prosecute crime.
