Malliotakis Announces $1 Million in Federal Funding for Security Upgrades at NYCHA’s Berry Houses
(STATEN ISLAND, NY) — Today, Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) joined residents and community leaders at the New York City Housing Authority’s (NYCHA) Berry Houses to announce $1,000,000 in federal funding for CCTV security upgrades throughout the development.
The funding, which is part of the Fiscal Year 2026 federal appropriations process, will support the installation of CCTV cameras at Berry Houses, including cameras in building lobbies, on building exteriors and inside elevators. The project may also address older infrastructure, replace aging security equipment and make necessary electrical upgrades to support the CCTV system.
These security cameras will provide greater security and serve as a potential crime deterrent for residents. The upgraded system will also provide an important public safety tool for residents, property management, the development’s childcare and community centers, and local law enforcement. |
“I am pleased to announce this critical federal funding for NYCHA’s Berry Houses,” said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. “Residents deserve to feel safe in their homes and neighborhood, and these security upgrades will help deter crime, provide greater peace of mind and better protect the families who live here. This funding will improve public safety and quality of life throughout the development while giving residents, property management and local law enforcement additional tools to help keep Berry Houses safe and secure.”
“NYCHA residents deserve to feel safe in their homes, in their buildings, and on their campuses, and investments like this one help us strengthen public safety," saidNYCHA Chief Executive Officer Lisa Bova-Hiatt. "This funding will allow NYCHA to upgrade and modernize the CCTV system at Berry Houses, providing residents with greater peace of mind knowing that their homes and community are equipped with an important tool to deter crime, while also giving property management and law enforcement a vital resource to support the safety of the development. We thank Congresswoman Malliotakis for her continued partnership and commitment to bringing critical resources to NYCHA communities.” |
