Bipartisan legislation that would require infertility treatments, like in vitro fertilization, to be covered by private insurance has the support of Staten Island’s congresswoman.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis is co-sponsoring the Helping to Optimize Patients’ Experience (H.O.P.E.) with Fertility Services Act, alongside Reps. Lori Chavez-Deremer, Zach Nunn, Susan Wild, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz, of Oregon, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Florida, respectively.

The measure would ensure infertility care is treated just as any other disease.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Richmond County District Attorney’s Office was awarded a $500,000 federal grant to establish a cold case unit on the borough.

The grant will supply the office with the funding needed to establish the unit and dedicate more time to investigating violent cold cases that already have suspect DNA profiles.

The money was administered through the Bureau of Justice Assistance and awarded under the FY24 Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA grant program.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One of the migrants allegedly involved in an assault on two members of the NYPD in Times Square this past January has taken a plea deal.

Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, pleaded guilty in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday to assault in the second degree, a class D felony, and was sentenced to 364 days in jail, according to a spokesman for the Manhattan D.A.’s office.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After two years, rehabilitation work on bridges over the Staten Island Expressway has finally been completed, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Monday.

Starting in June 2022, the $28.5 million project repaired and rehabilitated two bridges that carried local traffic over the Staten Island Expressway.

The Woolley and Bradley Avenue bridges, each more than 60 years old, both received new bridge decks and structural improvements that are expected to extend their lifespan by another 40 years.

The bill would require documented proof of citizenship not shown on driver's licenses and most other forms of ID when registering to vote in federal elections. It plans to order states to set up a program to remove noncitizens from state voter rolls.
