June 11, 2024

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis presented awards to students who were nominated — and ultimately received appointments — to United States military academies.

The presentation took place at the Marine Corps League Detachment 246 in Sunnyside.

Nominations are based on evaluations including factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character, motivation, and the results of interviews.

Congratulations are in order for:

Queenie Escalera, who was appointed to the United States Naval Academy. Queenie graduated from Susan Wagner High School two years ago and spent the last year at a Navy College Prep School.

Jacob Saladis was appointed to the United States Naval Academy, having graduated from Susan Wagner High School this year.

Kevin Wong was appointed to the United States Naval Academy and graduated from Susan Wagner High School this year.

Santino Lombardi was appointed to the United States Air Force Academy and graduated from New Dorp High School this year.

Salvatore Agro was appointed to United States Military Academy (West Point), having graduated from St. Joseph-by-the-Sea High School this year.
