Rep. Malliotakis announces 2024 Presidents’ Day essay contest

January 24, 2024

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) has officially announced her annual Presidents’ Day essay contest for students in Staten Island and Brooklyn. The contest is open to students in grades three through five who reside or attend school in New York’s 11th Congressional District.

“Last year, my office received over 600 submissions for our Presidents’ Day Essay Contest, more than double the number of essays we received since bringing this tradition to Congress three years ago,” Malliotakis said. “This is a great way for students to learn about the Executive Branch and how they can give back to their communities.

Participants are encouraged to write essays on what they would do to improve their community if they were President of the United States.

“In years past, my office has heard proposals on everything from how to confront bullying and make housing more affordable to spending more time with our seniors. I look forward to hearing directly from students about the issues important they believe are impacting their everyday life and finding ways to work together to develop solutions.” she added.

Winners of the contest will receive a congressional certificate of recognition from Malliotakis, a gift card to a local bookstore, and an invitation to a pizza party where they can discuss their ideas with Congresswoman Malliotakis.

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST

Key details for the contest include a submission deadline of Friday, Feb. 23, 2024.

Essays, no longer than 400 words, must be submitted by mail to Malliotakis’ Staten Island District Office at 1698 Victory Blvd, Suite 2L, Staten Island, 10314.

Submissions should include the student’s first and last name, school, grade, class, as well as their parent or guardian’s name and contact information to be considered.
