Nicole Malliotakis Blasts Court's Ruling That New York Must Redraw Congressional Districts

On “Forbes Newsroom,” Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) excoriated a New York court’s ruling that the Empire State must redraw its congressional districts.
Republicans flipped four congressional seats in New York in 2022. Now, this ruling could allow Democrats to redraw the map in a way that could turn as many as six seats from red to blue. Malliotakis claimed on “Forbes Newsroom” that the decision was “the Democrats’ latest attempt to tilt the scale, to give their candidates an advantage in next year’s election.”
New York’s top court, the State Court of Appeals, reportedly claimed that the redrawn map from 2022 was just temporary. Malliotakis argued on “Forbes Newsroom” that “these were the most independent… competitive maps we have seen in decades in New York.”
Politico reported that Malliotakis is “probably sleeping less soundly” over the news – but the Staten Island Republican believes the issue is bigger than her. “This isn’t an attack on me personally – this is an attack on the constituents that I represent. This is an attack on the voters of New York state.”
Malliotakis, who flipped the congressional seat in New York’s 11th district in 2020, does not believe her seat is in jeopardy. “I think I’m going to be able to prevail – regardless of what these lines look like,” she tells Forbes. “At the end of the day, it’s much bigger than just me. The people should have a say in who their representative is.”
