Malliotakis: Cuts to counterterrorism funding was ‘terrible idea’

October 3, 2025

STATEWIDE — U.S. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, the only Republican in Brooklyn’s Congressional delegation, stated that she intervened after cuts to counterterrorism funding

“New York remains the nation’s top terror target, and cutting this funding was never acceptable. I spoke with President Trump on Wednesday, and within 48 hours, this critical funding was fully restored, supporting the NYPD’s counterterrorism initiatives including intelligence gathering, bomb squad operations, surveillance cameras, officer training and specialized equipment,” Malliotakis said. “It’s well known that President Trump loves our NYPD and FDNY and understands the grave threats facing our city. The men and women of the NYPD have consistently stopped dangerous plots, and this funding ensures they will continue to have the tools and resources needed to keep our city safe.”

Malliotakis added, “Federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must be thoughtful when making critical and impactful decisions including where to direct federal funds. For them to cut counterterrorism funds from New York City was a terrible idea and now it was rightfully reversed.”
