Recently, my office helped SH5 Construction Corp in Gravesend, Brooklyn, secure a $360,000 loan increase from the Small Business Administration (SBA). SH5 Construction Corp is a woman-owned and operated full-serve construction company that has nearly two decades of experience working on government contracts for New York State, New York City, property owners, and contractors.

The COVID-19 pandemic put severe financial stress on SH5 Construction Corp, just like so many other small businesses in New York City. Because of this, SH5 Construction Corp. owner Yasmeen Latif was forced to lay off dozens of employees, reducing her workforce from 50 to 14.

SH5 Construction Corp was caught up in SBA bureaucratic red tape. Fearing she may have to close her business for good, Yasmeen reached out to our office for help. By working with the Small Business Administration on Yasmeen's behalf, my office was able to secure an additional $360,000 in assistance, saving her business and preventing any additional layoffs during the busy holiday season.

"Congresswoman Malliotakis' office expeditiously put in great efforts to ensure we got in touch with the SBA," said Yasmeen Latif, Owner & President of SH5 Construction Corp. "We had been in line for quite some time with SBA as they are extremely busy reviewing applications for millions of businesses. Congresswoman Malliotakis' office & SBA provided a lifeline to SH5 Construction at a time when all small businesses are going through financial & supply chain issues."
